Last updated on July 25, 2023

Manoj Bajpayee is a name that stands synonymous with quality Hindi cinema today. Recently, the actor gave a success in his Zee5 film Bandaa, and when Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar cornered him for a chat post the film’s success, he opened up on his journey in Bollywood of close to 3 decades. The actor shared how the meaning of success has changed for him over the years and why it was never measured for him in box office numbers. He shared if he ever felt left out because of the box office success not being associated with him throughout his career. Manoj also spoke about the religious controversy around Bandaa and how the real stories he heard shook him up. While he considers Amitabh Bachchan as his idol, he recalled insulting him for a scene during Aarakshan, and also how Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon and him made it easy for today’s actors by roughing it out. While today Manoj is overwhelmed with offers, he remembered the time when he had no work and had to find his own directors, why he took the indie films’ path, the respect he never received from mainstream cinema and the delayed recognition he got due to segregation. He also revealed why he rejected offers from Hollywood and how his wife Shabana and daughter Ava have been instrumental in influencing his film choices. Watch the entire conversation here.
